Beekeeper Training

Personalized beekeeper training is run several times a year at our apiaries in the country of Tanzania. We feel it is important to have trainees come to us during our harvest seasons so that they can get all three aspects of beekeeper training at "one time." They are theory, practical (harvesting from and inspecting hives), and processing and packing of honey. We only accept a small group of applicants so that we can answer their questions and encourage them more efficiently and effectively.

The training is quality, "hands on" and focused on helping African beekeepers work with African bees. It is a 5-day program:
  • Arriving to our beekeeping base the first day. Upon arrival, have dinner together with us and get settled in.
  • The second day is a whole day of theory focusing on what a colony of bees is and how they interact and communicate, gestation period for pupating bees, mating flight of queen. We also answer such questions as how do you attract primary swarms into your colony.
  • The third day is a practical day spent making starter strips from bees wax, suiting up in protective clothes and talking about the effects of smoke on bees. That same day the trainees inspect hives as well as harvest honey together with our team.
  • The fourth day is hands on processing of comb as well as packing honey so it attracts buyers. We also explain how to begin the process of getting a TBS registration from the TZ government for those interested.
  • The last day we pack breakfast for the team of beekeeper trainees and transport them to the local bus stand where they can make connections to return home.

We have trained beekeepers from Mahenge, Sumbawanga, Songea, Korogwe, Mbeya, Iringa, Lindi, Ifakara, Dar es Salaam, Mufindi, California, UK, Canada and Senegal.

Training takes place several times a year and we try to coincide our training with the harvest seasons in the areas in which we have hives. All trainees are involved in the opening of hives and participate in harvesting honey.

Our prices are low so that small scale farmers can participate!

If you wish to sign up or receive information on the upcoming training, please click here. We will respond promptly to your inquiries.
We only take between 10-15 trainees, so sign up soon!

Note: All training fees must be paid "in full" one month before start of the training.
